Celtic supporters have been particularly quiet in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side thumped 7-1 by European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain in their penultimate Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday night.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went into their trip to the Parc des Princes having won one of their four European encounters, which has given them a great chance of qualifying for the Europa League. And they took the lead in the French capital thanks to Moussa Dembele’s seventh of the season, yet that only seemed to spur the hosts on as they bagged seven unanswered goals to inflict upon the Bhoys one of the heaviest defeats in this year’s Champions League group stage campaign.
Thus, there have been plenty of disappointed and despondent Celtic fans in the Tavern recently, yet there may some encouraging news on the horizon if a recent report from Ghana Sports Online (via The Scotsman) is anything to go by, which outlines their interest in Astana forward Patrick Twumasi.
The 23-year-old made the move to the Kazakhstan outfit back in 2015 after enjoying a loan spell there the year before, and he has since gone from strength to strength with 37 goals and 26 assists in 112 games since making the move permanent at the start of the 2015 campaign.
And with 14 goals and nine assists in just 40 games this term, the Ghana international continues to make great strides, and they are strides which have reportedly attracted the interest of Celtic as manager Rodgers bids to strengthen his attacking ranks at Parkhead.
But whether the Bhoys are indeed able to get a deal done for the 23-year-old striking sensation very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: There’s something about playing for Astana that brings the best out of forward Patrick Twumasi, what with the 23-year-old having bagged 53 goals in just 139 games for the club, which includes two loan spells back in 2013 and 2014.
And his fine form in front of goal has reportedly attracted the interest of Brendan Rodgers and Celtic, who could look to move for the Ghana international in preparation for the likely exit of Moussa Dembele in the coming transfer windows.
And given that Twumasi has played down both flanks for Astana during his spell there, his versatility could be a huge asset to Rodgers as the Bhoys seek to continue their incredible dominance of Scottish football.
