25-year-old would be attracted to the lure of Rangers with Gerrard effect potentially in play

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been impressed with the work Steven Gerrard has already produced since being named as manager, however, he could have hit his first stumbling block since arriving.

The Liverpool legend is determined to rebuild the squad and make them a worthy challenger to former manager Brendan Rodgers and Old Firm rivals Celtic and has been rather successful in his pursuit of recruitments.

The Ibrox outfit have brought in the likes of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy, however, their chase for Connor Goldson could prove to be difficult. The Argus are claiming that Brighton and Hove Albion will wait to see if a second offer will be made, although they would be happy if they did not receive one.

It’s understood that Goldson would find the prospect of a move to Glasgow attractive and, as a Liverpool fan, would reportedly want to play under an Anfield icon such as Steven Gerrard.

Landlord’s Verdict

It remains to be seen if Rangers will be prepared to up their original offer of £1.5million for the 25-year-old as the Seagulls value him a lot higher.

Gerrard will need to add to his defensive core, with the likes of David Bates departing and Bruno Alves considered surplus to requirements, and have looked at the possibility of bringing in Martin Skrtel and Kyle Bartley.

The two experienced defenders would prove to be good signings, however, if they fail to land those, Rangers should consider making another offer for the Brighton man.
