Rangers are once again going head to head with Aberdeen for second place in the Scottish Premier League, with Celtic seemingly running away with the division title once again.
The Gers are still in the midst of a rebuild following financial ruin and subsequent demotion to the bottom tier, and it will take more time before the blue half of Glasgow is able to compete for major honours once again. Gers fans are always welcome here in The Transfer Tavern, and our landlord caught up with the rowdy Scots to talk all things Glasgow Rangers. New boss Graeme Murty is keen to improve his squad this month, and fans are desperate to see reinforcements begin to arrive at Ibrox. A striker could be on the agenda this month, and when discussing affordable, but reliable options, our landlord couldn’t help but suggest a potential switch for Eoin Doyle.
The Preston North End striker (rated at just £585k on Transfermarkt) has performed well whilst on-loan with Oldham Athletic over the course of the first half of the season, scoring an impressive twelve goals and adding a further four assists for the struggling Latics. With his future with the Lilywhites uncertain, boss Alex Neil could be willing to offload the forward on a permanent basis this month, and Rangers should ensure that they are in the hunt for the goalscorer.
Former Preston man Joe Garner performed excellently north of the border before switching back to England with Ipswich Town in the summer, and 29-year-old Doyle could also find his feet in Scotland’s biggest city. The Dublin-born forward is likely to be open to a switch, and can only dream of swapping Boundary Park for the mighty Ibrox Stadium this month.
