There is not much more Rangers fans would be able to ask of from Alfredo Morelos as the forward continues to write himself into club folklore.
The Colombia international striker has been in red-hot form ever since he arrived at Ibrox and it appears he may have reaffirmed and enhanced his reputation as a fan favourite even further with the latest developments.
What’s the News?
Rangers have confirmed on their official club website that Morelos has agreed to a new contract with the Light Blues keeping him at Ibrox until 2023.
Speaking about the deal, Morelos said: “It did not take me long to agree this extension because my career has progressed quicker and better than I could have expected when I joined this great club.
“I have come to realise just how special Rangers is and what it means to so many people around the world. Also, I feel a strong connection with the fans and they have made me feel special.
“They have been terrific for me and always back me which makes me want to score for them and then celebrate with them. I want to score many more goals for them, Rangers, and the manager, who has helped me so much, before this season ends.”
Tying down Morelos to a new deal is great news for Rangers and their fans as it shows that the forward is committed to the club and may ease any pressure that they may face in the near future in regards to selling him, although it should be noted that it is his second extension in six months.
The 22-year-old has continued on from his fine debut season with another excellent campaign this year, scoring 28 times from open play in his 41 appearances so far, which also led him to make his international debut towards the end of 2018.
It is no secret that the 22-year-old has attracted plenty of interest in recent transfer windows from some of Europe’s top clubs, which has led to a lot of talk about his future at Ibrox, with the player having admitted in the past that he had believed he would be leaving the Scottish Premiership side in the summer, per The Scottish Sun.
The new deal could see his valuation be increased and will put the club in a solid position when it comes to any possible negotiations they may face for the Colombian as he is still likely to attract offers.
Whether the new deal will be enough to keep Morelos at Rangers for longer will have to remain to be seen, but fans simply will not care about that until they need to cross that bridge. What they will be hoping for is that Morelos continues his fine form and can help propel their club to a title or two in the near future.
Rangers fans, what do you make of Morelos’ second contract extension in six months? Do you think it means he will stay beyond the summer, or whether it is just a tactic to bump a possible transfer fee up? Join in the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
