Today, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers confirmed via their Twitter account that Jak Alnwick had left the club to join Scunthorpe United in League One on-loan until January, subject to international clearance. The club confirmed the news on The Rangers Website but the Gers are surprised to see Alnwick leave.

A lot of fans aren’t surprised to see that they’ve let one of their ‘keepers leave the club for at least part of this season. Before Alnwick’s departure, the 25-year-old was facing competition from both Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham to be the number one at Ibrox and it didn’t seem fair to have three ‘keepers all fighting to be the club’s number one. However, some fans would have expected Foderingham to be the one to leave.
Now, though, it looks like Jak Alnwick will be looking forward to relishing the challenge of fighting with his new side in League One with his new club. If he can impress whilst out on-loan he could force Stevie G’s hand and play his way into the first-team, although if things at Ibrox keep going the same way they have been under Gerrard it’s hard to see The Gers needing a new shot-stopper.

You go do it mate. I'll pop down and catch a game or two. Show your true value and come back to fight for your slot.

The Gers will be keen to see how Alnwick gets on in England and will be hoping he can be competitive when he returns to Ibrox in January.
