Ambitious transfer target could prove too big for Rangers and Gerrard to seal

The rumoured transfer targets surrounding Rangers have gone into overdrive at the moment and fans in the Transfer Tavern will not know what to believe at the moment.

Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister have been busy rebuilding the team to ensure they will be able to compete next season and have already made a number of signings since their arrival.

Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy have already joined the Ibrox club on permanent deals whilst rumours continue to speculate about Martin Skrtel, with reports going back and forth about a possible switch.

However, the Daily Record are claiming that the Gers are interested in Jermain Defoe, however, believe a deal could be difficult to conclude. The 35-year-old is currently at AFC Bournemouth and Gerrard feels he could tempt the England international to join him on loan.

Eddie Howe is thought to be confident that the former Sunderland man is happy at the Vitality Stadium and will be happy to stay put on the south coast and fight for his place in the team.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Rangers fans in the Tavern would be delighted to bring a player of Defoe’s quality to the side, as he would be able to provide a finishing edge that has been missing in some of their matches.

However, a number of the locals will be concerned that the club would not be able to afford his £80,000-a-week wages, whilst the striker may want to prove himself to the Cherries, after having been hit with injuries last season.
