Rangers supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side add four new faces to their squad ahead of the second half of the Scottish Premiership season, a half they hope will be better than the first.
Graeme Murty’s men ended 2017 in third place in the table and 11 points adrift of leaders Celtic, in a campaign which so far has seen them embarrassingly lose to Progres Niederkorn in Europa League qualifying, as well as struggle to make inroads domestically. However, the Gers have been busy in the transfer window so far this month with Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy joining in the first week of January, while Jason Cummings and Russell Martin have also made the move north of the border in recent times to significantly bolster the squad at Ibrox.
And there may be further reinforcements to come if a recent report from The Daily Record is anything to go by, which suggests that the Gers are ‘expected’ to make an improved bid for Hamilton’s Greg Docherty at some stage on Friday.
The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at the Scottish Premiership side and has since gone on to play 109 games for the club, in which time he has scored eight goals and laid on 13 assists.
And with three goals and six assists coming for Martin Canning’s men this term, the midfielder is certainly going from strength to strength, and has attracted the attention of Rangers in recent times as the Gers reportedly made a bid for the Scotland Under-21 international this week, which was rejected by Hamilton.
Yet recent reports suggest that an improved bid is ‘expected’ to be made by the Scottish giants imminently, with Gers chief Murty clearly looking to further bolster his ranks ahead of the second half of the campaign.
But whether they will be successful this time round remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Rangers manager Graeme Murty is certainly stamping his authority on proceedings at Ibrox, with four new faces already through the door ahead of the second half of the season.
And the Gers chief is reportedly seeking to add Hamilton’s Greg Docherty to his ranks, with the Scottish giants reportedly readying an improved bid for the 21-year-old midfielder, a bid ‘expected’ to be made imminently.
They failed with a £300,000 offer earlier this week and may need to double that to lure him away from the Scottish Premiership side, but it very much remains to be seen whether the funds are indeed there for a permanent deal, what with all four signings this month so far being loan deals.
