Borna Barisic ruled out of Scottish Cup semi-final

Rangers will turn their attention to their Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday when they meet Aberdeen at Hampden Park.

The Light Blues recorded a goalless draw against Spartak Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday night and Steven Gerrard will want to see an improved performance from his team.

However, according to a report by the Scottish Sun, the manager has confirmed that he will be without one of his summer signings for the game.

Gerrard has revealed that Borna Barisic will be unavailable for the encounter with the Dons as he struggles to recover from injury.

The Croatian, who has impressed for Rangers since arriving from NK Osijek, was thought to be “very close” to being able to make a return, however, it now appears that he has suffered a setback in his progress.

The Verdict:

The news that Barisic will not be available for the Scottish Cup semi-final will have come as a huge blow to Rangers.

As mentioned, the 25-year-old has impressed for the Light Blues during his short stint with the Ibrox club and has looked solid on the left side of the defence.

With the likes of Jon Flanagan continuing to fill in, Rangers will still feel confident of being able to get a victory and progress to this season’s first final, where they could potentially meet Old Firm rivals Celtic.
