It’s fair to say that Celtic fans here in The Transfer Tavern have been celebrating wildly round the bar this season after a wonderful unbeaten domestic campaign and a treble of trophies.
Now they’re looking for an even better season after the summer and if that’s to happen then they still need improvement on one front – Europe.
For as good as they were domestically this season, they still found themselves lacking in the UEFA Champions League, finishing bottom of their group and failing to pick up a single win.
The signs of greatness are there. Draws with Manchester City and a result in Germany Borussia Monchengladbach point to a team that can be competitive in the group stages.
Brendan Rodgers will need some key first team signings and it appears that defence will be one of his priorities.
The Sun report that the former Liverpool boss is looking to return to his old club and snap up Joe Gomez, a young defender who has a bright future ahead of him.
However, they face stiff competition with the likes of Bournemouth ready to challenge for his signature, willing to pay £10m for his services says the report.
Celtic would likely be unable to compete with that sort of transfer fee but can they convince the Reds to send him to Glasgow for the season on loan?
Celtic fans – what do you think? Is Gomez the kind of talent you’d like to see at Celtic Park or should Brendan Rodgers look elsewhere?
