Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the transfer window and our punters are eager to see who Brendan Rodgers will bring to the club.
The Hoops lifted their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title and retained the Scottish Cup to complete a domestic double. Rodgers’ side struggled in Europe, being knocked out of both the Champions League and Europa League. Reinforcements are needed if they are to retain their title and improve their European performance.
Defence will be an area of concern for the Northern Irishman which he will look to address. Celtic lack a real leader at the back that can make a difference. With that in mind, one man who could solve his problem is Liverpool defender – Joel Matip.
The Cameroonian joined from Schalke on a free in 2016 and initially made a great start to life at Anfield. However, he has struggled for consistency and with injuries which has seen him slide down the pecking order. Virgil van Dijk’s arrival meant Matip was no longer a guaranteed starter. If another centre-back arrives, he could be set to depart.
Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, he would be an excellent signing for Celtic if they could lure him from Merseyside. He is a towering presence at the back and shows elegance on the ball. He would add a touch of the class to the side and fit right into Rodgers’ style of play.
Celtic fans, thoughts?
