Celtic are keen to bring Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist to Parkhead in time for their title showdown against Rangers, according to reports.
Siegrist on Parkhead radar?
The 28-year-old is on Neil Lennon’s wishlist after summer signing Vasilis Barkas has made a serious of errors which has seen him ostracised from the Bhoys’ squad, and has not featured for the past three weeks.
According to the print version of the Daily Mail (via Daily Record), Celtic are putting measures to place to bring in Siegrist the second that the transfer window opens its doors, with a huge game against Rangers on the following day.
Despite keeping only four clean sheets from 17 Scottish Premiership games (TransferMarkt), the former Switzerland U21 international has made more saves than Barkas, with 57 from 78 attempts on target, as opposed to the Greek shot-stopper, with just 13 from 18 shots at him.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
This will be exciting news for Celtic supporters, with many hugely critical of Barkas since his arrival in Glasgow.
Having come through the ranks at Premier League side Aston Villa and playing for the majority of his career in England’s top two divisions, Siegrist has plenty of experience under his belt.
If Celtic can win their games in hand and go to Ibrox with Siegrist in the squad, the season that Lennon is having could be completely turned on its head.
