Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has potentially dealt Celtic a hammer blow after speaking out about his future, dropping a hint on his next destination.
Siegrist to move abroad?
The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Parkhead in recent weeks, due to the worrying performances of summer signing Vasilis Barkas.
The Greek shot-stopper has made a series of errors which has cast uncertain shadows around him, despite featuring in his side’s last four Scottish Premiership games.
Siegrist, who stands at 6 foot 4 and has six clean sheets to his name this term, was described as “extraordinary” by his agent Dr Thomas Kraft, who insisted that a move would be “probable” if Celtic tabled a bid.
Speaking to Swiss outlet Blick, via Glasgow Live, Siegrist has now admitted that he has his heart set on a move to the Bundesliga to play in Germany.
“It could be an interesting transfer period, I’ll just let it come to me,” he said. “I’m happy at Dundee United and grateful that they put me in this shop window.
“My goal is to play at the highest level. I am ready for the next step.
“(My agent) does this work for me. But of course: the Bundesliga would be very attractive! As long as my performance is right, I am certainly in a strong position.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
This news will greatly disappoint Celtic supporters, on the back of their thoughts on Barkas and the general feeling of the season so far.
Lennon has immense pressure on his shoulders, with the Parkhead fans urging the board to “save the 10” and dismiss the Irish tactician from his role.
With Celtic currently 19 points behind arch-rivals Rangers, they must do something during the current transfer window if they want to stay in touch with Steven Gerrard’s side.
