Celtic chase creative Roberts replacement, set to exploit key transfer advantage over rivals

Get into a conversation with any of our Celtic fans here at The Transfer Tavern and they’re sure to get through plenty of rounds before they can wholly explain how deep their love is for winger Patrick Roberts after his 18-month loan spell at the club.

The Manchester City man had a phenomenal season with the Hoops, especially in the last two months when his form really helped push Celtic over the line to achieve an unbeaten domestic season and domestic treble.

Now though, his loan deal is up and in his absence he leaves a creative hole in the side. With 15 assists in all competitions this season, he managed to set up more goals than anyone else in the Hoops.

In order to fill that hole, Brendan Rodgers is reportedly looking at another young 20-year-old talent from England – Connor Mahoney.

The Daily Mail reckon that the Hoops boss is an admirer of the Blackburn Rovers right winger and knows that the Hoops can exploit the cross-border compensation situation that allowed them to bring the likes of Moussa Dembele to the club over English rivals in recent years.

However, the report also states Championship clubs like Wolves and Nottingham Forest are also in for the player, who made 21 appearances for Rovers this term.

Can the Hoops convince him his future lies in Glasgow?

Celtic fans – what do you think? Is this the kind of player you had in mind to replace Patrick Roberts or are you looking for a more established talent?
