Premiership champions Celtic have been linked with a shock move for Manchester United defender Phil Jones.
Celtic among other clubs that want Jones
The report from 90 Min claims that Man Utd will allow Jones to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window and apart from Celtic, as many as seven Premier League clubs also want the English defender.
Should Celtic avoid signing Phil Jones?
The report also states that while United’s preference would be to sell Jones permanently, his lack of game time in the first-team will make a sale difficult and a loan move will allow the Red Devils to free up some of their wages.
The Hoops are also interested in Lingard and Dean Henderson and have asked the Red Devils to be informed about their situations.
Move for injury prone defender doesn’t make sense for Celtic
Jones’ current deal at Old Trafford runs out in the summer of 2023 but he last played for United in January 2020 in a Premier League loss to Burnley.
The 28-year-old has missed quite a few games through injury over the last few years and currently, he is recovering from an injury. During his time at Man Utd, the Englishman has missed more than 200 games due to various injuries.
This shows that Jones has a rather questionable fitness record and because of that, Neil Lennon’s men should avoid trying to sign him in January.
