Celtic confirm Leigh Griffiths suffers injury blow

Celtic will be looking ahead to the upcoming season and they started the year well with a 3-0 win against Alashkert.

The Scottish champions started their Champions League campaign off in the perfect way with the victory against the Armenians, however, they could be without one of their main strikers for the remainder of the month.

According to a report in The Scottish Sun, Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Leigh Griffiths is expected to miss the majority of the European competition’s qualifiers.

The Scotland international was unavailable for their first-leg victory with a thigh problem and now it is thought he could be out for around three weeks.

“Leigh, along with Jonny Hayes, is probably two or three weeks away. We’ll know more in a few weeks’ time,” he said.

“It’s really unfortunate for him but that’s how football works.”

The Verdict:

Griffiths’ latest injury blow will certainly be felt by the Scottish Champions, however, they will be hopeful that the club can progress with Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard leading the line for their European charge.

Rodgers will be relieved that his main striker is not set to miss any of their Scottish Premiership campaign and will be looking ahead to their efforts in the Champions League this summer.
