Celtic have not enjoyed the most promising opening to the season and their shortcomings have provoked plenty of supporters to call for the signing of a new central defender.
The Hoops have been heavily linked with a move to re-sign Jason Denayer in recent weeks, but Manchester City quashed those links earlier today by confirming that the Belgium international has signed for Lyon on a permanent deal.
So it’s back to the drawing board for Brendan Rodgers in his hunt for a new centre-back with just ten days remaining before the transfer window slams shut.
But according to a recent report from the German media outlet Bild, Rodgers has already identified a potential alternative to Denayer, with the former Chelsea player Jeffrey Bruma firmly on his radar.
The report claims that Bruma is surplus to requirements at Wolfsburg after spending the majority of the 2017/18 campaign sidelined with a troublesome knee injury.
But the 25-cap Holland international’s injury problems have certainly not prevented the Celtic supporters from getting excited by the latest reports.
If the reaction on Twitter is anything to go by, it seems the fans would be absolutely delighted to welcome a player of Bruma’s calibre and experience to Celtic Park following weeks of speculation linking them with a move for a new defender.
Bild have also claimed that a bid worth 7.8 million euros (£7 million) would be enough to prise him away from the Bundesliga outfit, so the door is certainly open for Celtic to take a gamble by bringing the commanding physical defender to the club.
Here’s what the Celtic fans on Twitter have had to say about their links with Bruma…
He’s a must for us

Get him signed looks solid

We should go for him then. What’s stopping us? Better not be McKenna…

Wouldn’t waste the money on Scott McKenna. Need a solid centre half who has played on the continent and in either the EL or CL. Bruma fits the bill

Get it done @CelticFC before he starts drawing his pension…

Makes a big statement if we do
