Celtic: Fans react to former Ibrox chief Mark Warburton’s claims over James Tavernier

Mark Warburton has claimed that there is interest from the Premier League in captain James Tavernier and that he has been frequently asked for his verdict on the marauding full-back, according to an interview with The Daily Record.
But it seems that many Celtic fans aren’t buying the suggestions from the Queens Park Rangers boss, disregarding Warburton’s words as ‘nonsense’.
Warburton said of the right-back he signed for the Celtic’s Old Firm rivals in 2015:
“I know for a fact there is a lot of interest in him down here. I hear people talk and I’ve had a lot of phone calls from managers at other clubs who are asking me about him. I always give them my honest opinion.
“But this is not a new thing. It’s been going on for a long time now. So a lot of Premier League clubs have been watching him because they know how good he is.
“He’s a very talented boy, yes, everyone has areas that can be improved but Tav is an outstanding asset and a top-class professional.”
High praise indeed for a player under pressure – despite 3 goals and 8 assists from right-back, Tavernier has come under intense scrutiny this season. Not only has he missed penalties, but he has also made costly errors that have cost the side he captains.
Not surprisingly, it was Celtic fans who were first to comment on the post, questioning the claims of The Daily Record, Warburton and of Tavernier’s credentials:

Talks mince. Tavernier is rotten and directly responsible for several goals conceded this season. He cannot defend

Must be great working at the Record. Getting paid to make up nonsense daily. 😂
