Celtic: Vidar Riseth criticises compatriot Kristoffer Ajer -Celtic

Former centre-back Vidar Riseth, who spent two years playing for Celtic, has been criticising current Hoops defender Kristoffer Ajer.

Celtic are enduring a poor run of form at present, having won just two of their last 12 games in all competitions. According to The National, with ‘a number of key players’ allegedly upset that they didn’t get a move away from Parkhead in the summer, Riseth has claimed that potential would-be buyers will be taking note of the failures of the Glasgow club’s players this season.

Who did Larsson make his debut against?

What did Riseth have to say about Ajer?

The Norwegian, who describes himself as a Celtic fan, spent some time talking about his compatriot Ajer in particular and slated the £3.6m-rated man, who was linked with a move to current Serie A leaders AC Milan in the summer transfer window

Riseth said: “I am not happy with Kristoffer right now,” before he went on to explain that he thinks the 22-year-old needs “to be much stronger” if he is to secure a move to a club like Milan.

What do the stats say about Ajer’s performances for Celtic this season?

With Celtic enduring a difficult run of form, it may be understandable why Riseth is unhappy but it may also be unfair to pin too much blame on Ajer for Celtic’s form, as one could argue that he has been one of the Glasgow club’s better players this term.

Ajer has earned the seventh-highest overall WhoScored rating of any Celtic player in the Premiership this season, while he has also made the fourth-highest number of tackles, the joint-second-highest number of interceptions and played the fifth-highest number of successful long-balls of any Hoops player in Scotland’s top-flight during the 2020/21 campaign (WhoScored).

Do you think Riseth was too harsh on Ajer?

In other news, Kieran Devlin has confirmed that it is technically possible that Celtic could cut Shane Duffy’s loan short in January.
