The Celtic fans who are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that one of their players has been handed a free transfer buy the club.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the club have told Anthony Stokes that they no longer require his services and that he can leave the club on a free transfer.
Stokes had a public fallout with previous Celtic manager Ronny Deila and was sent out to Hibernian on loan for the second half of last season helping them to a famous Scottish Cup win over Rangers last month.
Stokes must have been hoping for a reprieve at Celtic following Deila’s departure from the club but it appears that new manager Brendan Rodgers does not see Stokes as part of his plans for next season.
It is now expected that Stokes will make the move to the English Championship with Rotherham United and join Alan Stubbs who was his manager at Hibernian last season.
