Celtic fans here in the Tavern are delighted today after the club received a boost in their ongoing pursuit of Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru.
The Bhoys are thought to be long-term admirers of the pacy Nigerian striker, who has been on-fire for Belgian first division side Eupen this season, scoring 15 goals already this campaign.
And despite going AWOL from his club back in January after his parent club refused to sell him to Celtic, he’s since returned to the side and has hit another good spell of form, scoring three in his last two games.
And with the summer closing in and excitement in the Bhoys end of the Tavern increasing, Onyekuru has himself confirmed that he’ll be leaving Eupen this summer after clubs all around the world made enquiries for his services.
As quoted in the Daily Record, Onyekuru said: “After the play-off, I will announce my decision.
“I have made my decision to leave. I have already agreed with Eupen that I am joining my new club after this season. I want to take the next step and play abroad. My ultimate aim is to one day play in the Premier League.
“There have been many enquiries for me. From clubs in Scotland, England and Germany.
“I am in negotiations right now with clubs. I believe I have had my best season, but I want to leave Eupen on a high and I would love to get as far up the table as possible before I leave,” he added.
Celtic are preparing for a big summer ahead and after bagging the Scottish Premier League title with weeks to go, our Bhoys-mad barman is confident the club can continue to improve, especially if they can bring in the talented Nigerian striker.
