Celtic: Ian Bankier dismisses possibility of Peter Lawwell’s exit - Celtic

Celtic chairman Ian Bankier has killed off any possibility of a potential Parkhead exit of the club’s chief executive Peter Lawwell.

Bankier was recently addressing multiple issues involving Celtic during the club’s Annual General Meeting. He was also asked about Lawwell and his position at the club and the chairman backed the chief executive to continue to Parkhead.

Should Celtic fans trust Ian Bankier?

Former Celtic player Charlie Nicholas had recently predicted Lawwell’s exit but those claims seem to have been killed off now.

Lawwell hailed as a ‘natural decision maker’

Bankier praised Lawwell’s role at Celtic, saying that everything that he does is in the best interests of the Parkhead-based side. He also described him as a ‘natural decision maker’ and someone who stands out from the rest (as per the Scottish Sun).

There's no way you can name all ten obscure Celtic players! First up, who is this?

Banker also said that because of the long-term plans and interests of the club, the Hoops will continue to carry on in the same manner as they are the ‘custodians’ of the Parkhead based side.

He said:

“In terms of the future of the club, we continue to do what we’ve been doing for the last decade. We are the custodians of this great club. Short-term pressures have come on, but we have to think of the longer game. Looking directly straight ahead, we need to get back to where we should be and we must do our very, very best to win this league. Everybody wants the same thing for Celtic and that’s where we stand.”

Celtic fan protests continue

The club’s fans have recently been protesting against the club’s board, saying that they don’t care about Celtic. The supporters have now protested against the board for three weekends in a row and they did that despite Celtic’s recent 2-0 win over Kilmarnock in the Premiership (as per the Herald).

The Hoops are 13 points behind the Gers in the Premiership table and have already been knocked out of the Europa League and the League Cup. This clearly suggests that the club’s not had a great season and while Bankier has made comments, it remains to be seen if his words calm the fans down. Perhaps, a lot will depend on the club’s results on the pitch.
