Celtic: Journalist provides transfer update on Celtic’s ‘unbelievable’ January target - Celtic

According to recent reports, Celtic look set to miss out on Philadelphia Union centre-back, Mark McKenzie, in the January transfer window.

Back in December, Sky Sports reported that McKenzie would be ‘open to moving to Celtic’ in January and that the defender is ‘high up on their list of targets’ in the position.

There's no way you can name all ten obscure Celtic players! First up, who is this?

However, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph claimed on Monday that Belgian side KRC Genk have swooped in for the £3.6 million-rated 21-year-old, and are ‘finalising a deal’ with Philadelphia Union for the transfer of the American international.

He continues by stating that the two clubs have been ‘locked in negotiations’ over the Christmas period, and are now ‘close to agreeing a fee’, which is believed to be worth around £5 million.

The news that Genk look set to sign the defender, whom Philadelphia Union manager, Jim Curtin, has previously referred to as ‘unbelievable‘, will likely come as a bit of a blow to Celtic, who recently lost Christopher Jullien for three to four months due to a knee injury.

As such, it would appear that Celtic will certainly need to strengthen in the position this month, however, it looks like any hope the Parkhead side had placed on a move for McKenzie has now disappeared, so they’ll need to take a look at some other targets.

In other Celtic news, the club have received a transfer boost as they aim to bring ‘excellent’ talent to Parkhead this month, find out more here!
