Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern have been celebrating ever since they secured a domestic double at Hampden Park.
Goals from Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham were enough to seal a 2-0 victory over Motherwell last Saturday – a result which gave the Hoops their second consecutive Scottish Cup trophy and ensure Brendan Rodgers would finish the season with two trophies to his name. Despite their domestic success, Celtic will not feel totally satisfied with their season after they were knocked out of both the Champions League and Europa League.
Their success on the field could be tarnished if Kieran Tierney eventually decides to embark on a new challenge in the future, as he has been linked with various clubs across Europe this season. The left-back has been in exceptional form for Celtic , and if he continues to develop at an exponential rate then he is bound to accept an offer from outside of the club in the not too distant future.
Should Tierney leave this summer, Rodgers must make replacing him a priority. The ideal replacement could be Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno as he has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield this season due to the mightily impressive performances of Andrew Robertson. Robertson has surpassed the Spaniard as Liverpool’s first choice left-back, so a summer exit could be on the cards as Moreno searches for first-team opportunities elsewhere
A reunion with Rodgers could be the perfect move for all parties concerned. Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, Moreno is an incredibly offence-minded fullback with blistering pace, and in the SPFL his defensive frailties are less likely to be exposed.
Our landlord is concerned that Liverpool will want to recoup the majority of the £16.2m they paid to Sevilla to secure his services in August 2014, however, with Tierney likely to command a huge fee, Celtic should have no problems pulling this one off.
