Celtic plan new contract talks with Dedryck Boyata

Celtic will be confident of their upcoming Scottish Premiership campaign, but they will want to keep hold of their best players to ensure things run smoothly.

This season will see their Old Firm rivals Rangers better prepared as Steven Gerrard has made a number of quality additions, however, Brendan Rodgers has admitted in the past he is more concerned about his own team than the others in the division.

The Bhoys have had an interesting summer in which a number of their players have been linked with moves away and they have so far managed to keep hold of their star men.

One of those to be linked with a possible Celtic Park departure is Dedryck Boyata, however, reports in the Daily Record are claiming that the Hoops are prepared to do all they can to convince him to stay.

It is believed the Bhoys will hold fresh contract talks with the Belgium international once he returns home from a successful World Cup tournament, as they look to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

The Verdict:

Celtic will be smart to reopen talks about a new deal for Boyata as he has just one-year left on his current deal and his performances at this summer’s tournament will have only increased the interest in him.

The 27-year-old had already started negotiations before the competition, however, Rodgers is keen to keep the former Manchester City youngster at Parkhead for a lot longer than the three years he has already been in Scotland.
