Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has recently provided an update about the club’s transfers and it could concern Celtic’s chase of Fraser Forster as well.
It has been reported that Celtic could look to move for Forster in the January transfer window as the club feels that they can look for a short-term option to solve their goalkeeping issues this season. Celtic believe that another loan deal can be achieved, when it comes to Forster.
Are you hopeful that Celtic will sign Forster in January?
Hasenhuttl gives Celtic hope for Forster
Hasenhuttl has been recently talking about Southampton’s approach in the upcoming January transfer window. He gave his opinion about potential outgoings for the Saints and said that the South Coast club isn’t a selling club but they aren’t a club that is at the top of Europe either.
The Austrian also said that if clubs come in to sign Southampton’s players and offer a suitable amount of money, then the club can always look to discuss terms. He said:
“It seems rapid that the next transfer window comes – it seems like yesterday I spoke about the last one, which was closed a little bit later.
“I am never scared of any transfer window because this is the way we go. When we are performing well and other clubs are coming, wanting to take our players and give you the money you want, then you always discuss it.
“We are never a club at the end of the highest in Europe, this will never be, but we are also not a selling club. If it is necessary, we have to. If players do not extend their contracts, and they are free, they have to go, then they go.”
Signing Forster would be vital for Celtic
During his loan stint at Celtic in the 2019/20 campaign, Forster had been a regular between the sticks for the Bhoys. The Englishman made 28 Premiership appearances for the Bhoys, keeping as many as 14 clean sheets.
Not just that, but Forster saved a penalty in the League Cup final against Rangers. He also saved a penalty in the club’s Round of 32 Europa League tie against Copenhagen. The goalkeeper impressed in their Europa League tie against Serie A giants Lazio as well.
Vasilis Barkas has struggled since arriving at Parkhead and Scott Bain has also been criticised. Because of that, the Hoops quite simply need a reliable goalkeeper to come in and play regularly. Based on his performances last season, Forster can do that job. Make no mistake about it, this could be a big boost for the Bhoys.
