Celtic ready to fight off interest from European giants by offering star new deal

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping to keep hold of one of their best players this summer, amid interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Brendan Rodgers will be keen to ensure that his side remains as strong as possible following what has been happening with Old Firm rivals Rangers and Steven Gerrard recently and will be determined to keep hold of one of his best stars.

According to the Daily Record, the Northern Irishman is desperate to try and keep Dedryck Boyata at Parkhead for as long as possible, despite interest coming from SS Lazio. It is believed that the Serie A side have not made any contact just yet, however, Celtic are aware of the continued interest in the player.

The Belgium international, who has been a mainstay for Roberto Martinez’s side during the World Cup, has just one-year left on his present deal at Celtic Park and the Hoops want him to extend his stay with them.

Talks about a new deal started before this summer’s tournament, however, the 27-year-old suspended those discussions until the competition is over and the Bhoys will be hoping he does commit his future upon his return.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Celtic fans in the Tavern will be desperate to see Boyata extend his stay at Celtic Park this summer following some impressive performances for the Bhoys.

The former Manchester City centre-back has been ever-present for the Scottish Premiership champions since he joined them in 2015 and has helped the club lift six trophies during his time in Glasgow.
