Celtic fans here in the Tavern are buzzing for the return of European football, as they hope their beloved Hoops can make a run all the way for the trophy.
The Hoops haven’t enjoyed the best of memories in European competitions gone by, as hammerings continue to be a regular occurrence for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Indeed, after seeing them finish third in their Champions League group this season, a drop down to the Europa League has seen Celtic draw Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg in the round of 32. And, the Glasgow side received the biggest possible boost prior to their hotly anticipated encounter, as according to reports in the Scottish Sun, Celtic superstars Patrick Roberts, Tom Rogic and Stuart Armstrong are all pushing to be fit for their ties with Zenit.
Indeed, Lennoxtown training centre has been a busy place in recent times, as the Hoops continue to struggle from a mid-season injury crisis with three of their star men currently making their way back. Indeed, Rogic and Roberts have both been sidelined with knee and hamstring injuries respectively, while Armstrong had surgery last month to sort a hernia problem.
Midfielder Tom Rogic has been ruled out for the past couple of months but is back in training ahead of schedule, and is desperate to make a return in the all-important Europa League clash with Zenit. And, Armstrong joins Rogic as a contender for the first-leg of their European encounter, as the Scotsman remains on course with a return very much in sight. However, the same can’t be said about loanee Patrick Roberts, as the ideal return for the 21-year-old is set to be the second-leg at the end of this month with him still undergoing the recovery process.
A triple injury boost that will mean great things for the Hoops, as three of their most influential players are set to bolster a Celtic side that are already running things domestically. So, with their ability needing to be proven on the European stage, the return of these three stars will be sure to boost the mood and chances of conjuring up a Europa League dream at Celtic Park.
