Celtic set to miss out on Jason Denayer

Things look to be going from bad to worse for Celtic quickly this summer, as they were dumped out of the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers saw his side eliminated from the European competition with a defeat to AEK Athens and it now appears he may be about to miss out on a transfer target as well.

According to a report in Turkish-football, Galatasaray have allegedly struck a deal with Manchester City’s Jason Denayer on a loan deal.

They add that Turkish newspaper Hurriyet have claimed the two parties have agreed to personal terms, however, a deal with the reigning Premier League champions is still yet to be struck.

Rodgers had been keen on bringing the Belgian to Celtic Park, however, it is understood that the defender had rejected the chance to join them and has chosen to head back to the Istanbul outfit for another spell.

The Verdict:

Celtic will be disappointed to miss out on the defender, especially considering the lack of depth they have at the back.

The Bhoys have struggled recently and their need for a player like Denayer has been highlighted even further following their recent defeats to AEK and Heart of Midlothian.

The 23-year-old centre-back would have been a good addition to the side if he did join following an impressive spell at Celtic Park in the 2014/15 campaign, however, it does not appear he will be heading back to them in the near future.
