Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern can finally look forward to the summer transfer window after wrapping up the domestic double against Motherwell – our punters reckon they can do the treble next year.
A 2-0 win over the Steelman saw Celtic retain the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park. The Hoops had already secured the Scottish Premiership title for the seventh time in a row following a 5-0 thrashing of rivals Rangers. Their performances in Europe left a lot to be desired, but the summer window is now open allowing Brendan Rodgers to strengthen his squad.
With Craig Gordon approaching the end of his career, Celtic need a new long-term number one. Rodgers would have watched former club Liverpool lose the Champions League final with Loris Karius’ errors handing two goals to the Spanish side. His mistakes will define his Liverpool career and he is surely unlikely to remain at Anfield as a result.
While his errors were inexcusable, Karius has enjoyed a decent season bar the final. The German ousted Simon Mignolet as Liverpool’s first choice keeper. However, his inconsistencies have meant he will no longer be their number one. However, he could be an excellent signing for Celtic.
Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, the former Mainz keeper needs an escape route, and the Scottish Premiership could be the perfect home. At just 24-years-old, there is plenty of time for Karius to put this performance behind him and develop into a top keeper. Liverpool are unlikely to command a large fee for his services, he could prove to be an astute piece of business by the Hoops.
