Celtic supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this season after seeing their side continue their domination of Scottish football by recording a 63rd match without defeat, thus breaking their own 100-year record.
Brendan Rodgers’ men swept aside all that came before them last term by winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup, and they are already well on their way to matching that this term by reaching the final of the latter, as well as opening up a three-point lead at the top of the league. And the Bhoys created history in their last outing as a 4-0 success over St Johnstone made it 63 domestic matches unbeaten for Celtic, which saw them break their own 100-year record to further underline their superiority north of the border.
Thus, there have been many delighted Bhoys fans in the Tavern in recent times, although they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from The Daily Mail, which suggests that they have suffered a huge blow in pursuit of Reading defender Liam Moore.
The 24-year-old has impressed at the Madejski Stadium since moving there back in 2016, and as such was linked with a move to Celtic Park earlier this week as Rodgers seeks further reinforcements to his depleted backline.
Yet Royals boss Jaap Stam has no interest in selling the centre-back, saying: ‘If he is mentioned I can understand it because he has the ability to step up.
‘But if you want to build a club and go somewhere you’re not going to sell your best players.’
And these comments are unlikely to sit well with our resident Celtic supporters, as the club may now need to turn their attentions away from Moore when the window reopens in January.
Landlord’s verdict: Although things are going well at Celtic, and have been ever since Brendan Rodgers took charge, the depleted options at centre-back appear to be a cause for concern for the Bhoys boss.
And that is why they have reportedly expressed an interest in Reading defender Liam Moore, who has seriously impressed at the Championship club since moving there from Leicester City back in 2016.
Yet his manager Jaap Stam has little interest in letting the 24-year-old go in the New Year, which is sure to come as huge blow to Rodgers and the Celtic hierarchy, who may be forced to consider other targets as the January window edges ever closer.
