Celtic Target – “Should Never Been Allowed Through The Lennoxtown Front Door”

Reports from Italy are saying that Serie B side Sampdoria are holding talks with Celtic transfer target Stijn Stijnen.

The 30 year old Belgian keeper was in Glasgow earlier this week for talks and a tour around Lennoxtown.  However talks broke down after the player refused to play in a trial match and he returned home without any deal being signed.

 Stijnen stated afterwards,

” I am Stijn Stijnen.  I have won 30 caps for Belgium and have played in a host of Champions League and Europa League games.  For those reasons, I should not have to prove myself.”

Celtic are reportedly keen to have the 6ft 2in shot stopper back in Glasgow for further talks.  However they look as though they have lost out on their controversial target as his agent Rene VanDerMeerch confirmed talks with Sampdoria are at an advanced stage.

With this being said I think Hoops boss Neil Lennon should drop any interest in Stijnen and let him become Sampdoria’s problem with any deal for him sure to end in disaster.

The keeper was released in February by Club Bruges for criticising his team mates on the Internet.  A plan that was supposedly meant to boost his profile within the club.  A plan that backfired big time.  For a guy who is supposedly  TOO GOOD  to prove himself at Parkhead.  Why does he feel the need to try underhanded tricks to boost his profile???

Also the keeper has never played his club football outside of his home country.  So if he’s so good why is he still playing in one of Europe’s minor league’s ??? And if he has played in so many Champions League and Europa League games?  Why is it that every Celtic fan I speak to has never heard of him??? Surely if he was as good as he protests he would have been the subject of interest long ago and not just now that he’s become a free agent.

Lennon already has a very experienced keeper on trial in Stipe Pletikosa and to be honest in my opinion he’s a far better signing than Stijnen. Pletikosa has no problems being on trial despite the amount of experience he has, proving he has the correct mind set too.

I could have perhaps understood if Pletikosa was unhappy to prove himself at Celtic given his vast experience and international caps. However the Croatian has been a credit to himself and has worked hard in training and seems happy to do whatever is necessary to win himself a deal at Parkhead.  Something which Stijnen might want to take notice of.

Stijn Stijnen should never have been allowed through the front door of Lennoxtown never mind shown around the place.  My best wishes go out to SAMP if they do sign him we might not be seeing them in the Italian top flight for a while.
