Celtic without a number of players for Partick Cup clash

Celtic will turn their attention to the Scottish League Cup on Saturday as they prepare to face Partick Thistle at Firhill.

Brendan Rodgers will want to make sure the club does not suffer another shock defeat this week after being beaten by Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership and being dumped out of the Champions League by AEK Athens.

However, according to a match preview by Sky Sports, the Bhoys could be without a few key men for the tricky encounter.

Dedryck Boyata will continue to miss out as his future at the club continues to be surrounded in uncertainty. The Belgium international has attracted plenty of unwanted interest and it is thought he is open to considering a possible move away from Celtic Park.

Odsonne Edouard, who joined the Hoops on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain following a hugely successful loan spell, is also unavailable for the second round game, as he continues to recover from a knock.

Celtic’s latest addition, Daniel Arzani, is also thought to not feature for the Scottish Premiership champions, as he is far from match fitness following his two-year loan deal from Manchester City.

Marvin Compper and Lewis Morgan are still working their way back to fitness, whilst Kristoffer Ajer has returned from suspension.

The Verdict:

Celtic will want to put a miserable week behind them and get back to winning ways.

Partick could prove to be a difficult test for Rodgers’ side, however, there will be a sense of confidence that they can progress to the next round, should they stick to their game time.

It will not help their cause with a number of key men unavailable, however, they have a number of capable options that should be able to fill the absences created and should progress to the next round.
