Celtic’s summer transfer business should start to pick up in the next few weeks.
The Hoops are looking to make it eight league titles in a row after completing the domestic treble last season. Brendan Rodgers kicked off the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Livingston but struggled to overcome ten-man AEK Athens in their Champions League qualifier. They travel to Greece next week hoping to reach the next round.
Rodgers may be eager to bolster his squad ahead of the tie as Celtic look to qualify for the Champions League group stage for the fifth successive season. The Northern Irishman has made just one permanent signing – landing Odsonne Eduoard from PSG after impressing on loan last season. More deals are surely expected before the August 31st deadline.
One man Celtic could target is Everton wonderkid – Beni Baningime. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, the youngster joined the Toffees at the age of nine and quickly rose through the academy to earn a place in the first-team. He lifted the ‘Premier League 2’ last season and was named as the Player of the Year.
The 19-year-old made eight appearances in the Premier League last year as well as three in the Europa League. His impressive showings have earmarked him as a potential star of the future. However, after Everton signed Andre Gomes on loan, Baningime could struggle for game time.
A loan to Celtic would be an excellent move for his development. Rodgers have a reputation for bringing the best out of young players, and Baningime would provide the Hoops with a great option in the engine room. Excellent on the ball, the Congolese midfielder would be a massive hit in the SPFL.
