Bittersweet news for Celtic emerges ahead of tonight’s huge Champions League tie

It’s a huge night for the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve already piled in ahead of the club’s visit to the Allianz Arena tonight. There’s a real feeling amongst the punters calming their nerves here that there is no better time to play Bayern Munich due to their recent (relative) malaise.

Indeed, the Bhoys in our bar are dreaming about a big result away in Bavaria tonight as they look to progress into the next round of the Champions League at long last, so injury news from BBC Sport has proven rather bittersweet ahead of the game.

Both Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong will reportedly be fit to start later this evening, though key defender Jozo Simunovic has been left in Glasgow as he looks to recover from a hamstring injury before the return tie at Parkhead at the end of the month.

So, the midfield has received a very welcome boost – much to the delight of the punters clad in green and white here – though Brendan Rodgers’ defence remains a slight concern when you consider the fact that Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez will likely spearhead the opposition attack.

Landlord’s Verdict:

With Simunovic left at home, it’s a huge night for the likes of Nir Bitton, Mikael Lusting and Dedryck Boyata as they look to defend Craig Gordon in goal. Neither Bitton or Lustig are natural central defenders to go alongside Boyata, making life difficult for Rodgers and his men.

Will need a big, big performance to keep Bayern out.
