Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating following a historic weekend which saw the Hoops lift their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership trophy at the expense of Rangers.
Brendan Rodgers masterminded his side to a crushing 5-0 victory against their arch-rivals to spark huge celebrations at Celtic Park. With the title secured, attention now turns to Motherwell and the Scottish Cup final before transfer plans can get underway.
One area that needs strengthening in the goalkeeping department. Current number one, Craig Gordon, will turn 36 in December with Dorus de Vries also nearing his 38th birthday. A new long-term option should be targeted this summer.
One man who could find himself searching for a new club is Liverpool stopper – Simon Mignolet. The Belgian has fallen out of favour at Anfield with Jurgen Klopp preferring to use Loris Karius between the sticks. Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, Rodgers was the man to bring the 30-year-old to Merseyside from Sunderland for £9m back in 2013 – describing him as “one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League”.
A reunion in Scotland could work out great for both parties with Mignolet unlikely to find first-team football under Klopp and Celtic in need of a younger number one. Despite some inconsistent performances this term, Mignolet remains a great goalkeeper that would thrive in the SPL.
Celtic fans, would you be happy to see Simon Mignolet join the Hoops? Let us know!
