Celebrations are underway in the Transfer Tavern after Celtic secured their 49th Scottish League title with a dominant 5-0 victory over Rangers at Celtic Park.
The league was nothing more than a formality as Brendan Rodgers side cruised to their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership trophy. Despite their domestic success, Celtic struggled in Europe; crashing out of the Champions League at the group stage.
Reinforcements are needed if the Hoops are to be competitive on the European stage with transfer plans set to get underway following the conclusion of the Scottish Cup final against Motherwell. Midfielder, Tom Rogic, is yet to sign a new deal with the club and could need replacing.
Should Rogic depart, Rodgers should look to reunite with Stoke City midfielder – Joe Allen. The Northern Irishman worked with Allen at Swansea before bringing him to Liverpool and infamously describing him as the ‘Welsh Xavi’.
Rodgers is known to be a huge fan of the Welshman and Stoke are in grave danger of relegation which could plunge his future into doubt. Allen is far too good for the Championship and would jump at the chance to play in Europe under his former mentor.
Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, Allen would thrive in the SPL and already has a vast knowledge of Rodgers’ tactics meaning he would have no problems fitting in at Celtic Park. Still only 28, he is approaching his prime and would be a fantastic signing for the Hoops.
Celtic fans, would you like Joe Allen in midfield next year? Let us know!
