As Celtic close in on an entire domestic season unbeaten in Scotland, the punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have been celebrating for what seems like months now.
Clearly, Brendan Rodgers’ rebuild in Paradise next season will focus mainly on being able to muster more of a challenge in the Champions League, so squad additions are the topic of conversation amongst the Bhoys in the bar.
So, reports linking the Hoops with a bargain move for Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke have proven very interesting indeed. The 19-year-old, prolific as they come at youth level, is thought to be close to leaving west London after struggling to break into the first-team.
Much like the type of deal that saw Moussa Dembele (a rip-roaring success) move to Glasgow, the SPFL giants would be able to snap up the England U20 star for a bargain price.
Now, both the aforementioned Dembele and Leigh Griffiths have shared the goalscoring burden well in green and white this season, though wanting to progress further in the UCL will invariably place a bigger strain on Rodgers’ squad.
With that in mind, Solanke’s arrival would be another wonderful deal for top brass at Parkhead.
Not to be too cynical, but you get the feeling that if Dembele has another seriously strong campaign in Scotland and stays injury free, he’ll be off to a European powerhouse for big money in the summer.
With that in mind, blooding Solanke into regular first-team football – in a league where he’s bound to bag goals – could be an astute move,
A pacey, mobile striker, he’d be a great foil for the powerful Dembele, as well as a potential replacement. Crucially, he can also be sold for huge money in a few years, considering the premium imposed on English players around the world.
