It’s a good time to be a Celtic fan and reports from the Daily Record have boosted the mood even further in the Bhoys’ booth here in the Transfer Tavern by claiming that Fabio Borini is being eyed.
The Italian striker is currently plying his trade with Sunderland after signing for the Black Cats permanently from Liverpool in 2015 for a fee of £8m.
However, the Daily Record claim that with the Wearside club set for relegation he could be moved on for around half of that fee – a decent rate considering he’s valued at £5.1m by transfermarkt.com – and that Brendan Rodgers is keen to reunite with the one-cap Italy international.
The Northern Irishman has worked with Borini at Chelsea, Swansea and Liverpool, making him his first major signing at the latter club.
Although he struggled at Anfield and with Sunderland – his loan spell at Roma in between was relatively fruitful – Rodgers seemingly remains a fan of him as he plans for what might be a big summer at Celtic with as much as £15m to spend on ‘blue chip’ additions.
Fabio Borini is an ideal marquee signing for Celtic – agree?
