Celtic legend Joe Ledley has had nothing but kind words to say about his former club, and fans are repaying the favour.
The Welsh midfielder arguably had the best years of his career at the Glaswegian club, marking himself out to the Parkhead crowd with an array of memorable moments – including a winning goal in the Old Firm which helped Celtic leapfrog their rivals in December 2011.
Along with that, Ledley also helped Celtic qualify for the Champions League the following season, scoring a goal in their away tie to HJK Helsinki which eventually lead to a 4-0 aggregate demolition – allowing them to make history in the competition with that historic 2-1 win over Barcelona in the group stages.
After leaving the Hoops, Ledley played a key role for Crystal Palace in helping them secure their Premier League status – including vital strikes against Leicester City and Liverpool – before being released in 2017.
Now, Ledley has reminisced over the best years of his career, calling Celtic ‘the best club he ever played for’.
“I loved playing for Celtic. It was the best club I ever played for. The fans were incredible week in, week out and the following away was just unbelievable.” said the 32-year-old.
In response, Celtic fans have been just as complimentary:
I was there 28th December 2011. It was also the last time i saw my uncle alive a retired priest. Was 20 years since my old man past away they were both from Bellshill. My brother and I travelled from Cornwall for this game. RIP Dad James. Also HH to you all my fellow fans.
