The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are found boasting about the club’s academy both often and loudly as they celebrate seemingly constant success under Brendan Rodgers.
Indeed, the form of Kieran Tierney for both the Hoops and the Scottish national side has absolutely delighted the Bhoys in the bar, though one former Parkhead star doesn’t seem overly convinced.
Chris Sutton is known for his strong opinions, even when including three academy players in the team for last night’s win over Kilmarnock in the League Cup, doesn’t seem to be thrilled.
Tierney was joined by Anthony Ralston and Calvin Miller in the 5-0 rout and two of them notched against Killie, so Sutton was asked by a fan on Twitter whether he still believed the youth ranks at the club weren’t up to scratch.
One swallow doesn’t make a summer… Good last night but over the years it’s been a disappointment…Not enough top level players produced https://t.co/vT5zMbCdFn

However, the BT Sport pundit stressed the fact that one good performance wouldn’t change his mind.
Not all too many of Celtic’s young breakthroughs go on to make it at the highest level – a platform Tierney seems destined for – so even if it pains to for them to admit it, our resident Hoops admit Sutton could be right.
