Celtic preparing for European bid as giants eye move for mainstay – report

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking for their side to strengthen over the summer after watching what their Old Firm rivals have been doing.

Rangers have been extremely active in the transfer window, whereas Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers has not, and the locals will be hoping that he will at least bring some additions into the side to help retain their competitive side.

Despite the lack of arrivals, the Bhoys could be set to lose one of their main defenders this summer, with reports in Italy starting to circulate.

And that’s because, according to Il Messaggero, Serie A giants Lazio are considering a move for defender Dedryck Boyata, as they look to make contingency plans should they lose their best centre-back.

The 27-year-old has proven to be a mainstay for the Hoops over the years, with his recent form being rewarded with a place in the Belgium national team for this summer’s World Cup.

His future has recently come into doubt as he has rejected a new deal at Parkhead, and with just one year left on his current deal to run, it’s plausible that he could well leave the club this summer.

Landlord’s Verdict: The Celtic fans will want to see Boyata remain at Celtic Park beyond the summer, or at least have someone brought in to replace him if he does go.

Many of the locals in the Tavern will recognise that it could be a difficult situation that Rodgers finds himself in, with either getting a transfer fee for him or risk losing him for nothing next summer.
