Having equalled a 50-year-old record set by the Lisbon Lions following their midweek victory over St. Johnstone, the Celtic fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted about this season as a whole.
With the League Cup bagged already and the league itself looking a mere formality, the Bhoys in the bar are more focused on potential dealings in the transfer market as Tuesday’s deadline fast approaches. Having already landed Kouassi Eboue, the Hoops are hopeful of more.
Which is why reports from Belgian outlet RTBF have provoked such thought amongst our drinkers. The story suggests the Scottish champions have made a bid for KAS Eupen’s Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru in an attempt to land the highly-rated talent.
The 19-year-old is understood to have been the subject of a €1.5m bid from the Parkhead giants, an offer that is thought to have been snubbed by his current charges. While Eupen are believed to be eager to keep the forward for the rest of their campaign, they may be willing to do a deal upwards of €4m.
Onyekuru himself is said to have fallen out with the club for rejecting offers for him and is thought to dream of one day playing for Arsenal, though the Celtic fans in the Tavern are hopeful they can see him in green and white before the end of the month.
