Celtic should end Sunderland flop’s misery and bringing in an ideal Boyata replacement ASAP

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited for the new season following their club-record signing of Odsonne Edouard, so here’s some more transfer news to excite the Celtic faithful.

The Rangers revolution is underway as Steven Gerrard has started to make a number of new signings this summer. Celtic fans, however will want to make sure that there’s only one club in town worth speaking about. Although the Hoops are reigning champions, Brendan Rodgers is still looking strengthen a few areas in his squad.

One possible signing Rodgers should consider is Sunderland’s Lamine Kone.

The Breakdown

The 29-year-old defender had a strong start to his Sunderland career. Kone along with Jan Kirchoff and Wahbi Khazri, helped Sam Allardyce keep Sunderland in the Premier League. Following the end of the season, the Ivory Coast international attracted interest from multiple clubs, namely Everton, although he ultimately signed a new deal to stay at the club.

The powerful defender has since fallen out of favour on Wearside. Although he’s made 69 appearances for the Black Cats, his performances haven’t quite matched up to the early part of his tenure in Sunderland. With that being said, a move for Celtic might just make sense for all sides concerned.

Celtic could offer the defender a way out of a team that has suffered back-to-back relegation but also the opportunity to win some silverware. Moreover, if Celtic can bring Kone in, they could finally get rid of the inconsistent Dedryck Boyata.  The Belgium international has never truly won over Hoops fans and could be out the door this summer. Putting Kone at the back instead of Boyata, may just give Rodgers a defensive powerhouse that could well bring in yet another title.

Celtic fans – what are your thoughts?
