Celtic should make audacious attempt to reunite Rodgers with £19.8m-rated striker

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t stop signing after the Hoops completed the domestic double with a 2-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Cup final.

Brendan Rodgers guided his side to another trophy at Hampden Park after lifting the Scottish Premiership title with a 5-0 win over Rangers. Despite their domestic success, the Hoops once again fell short on the European stage being knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage. They also exited the Europa League at the hands of Zenit St Petersburg.

If Moussa Dembele leaves the club, the Hoops will need a top forward to replace him. With Rangers set to strengthen heavily following the arrival of Steven Gerrard, Celtic need a marquee signing to fire them to the title and to finally secure success in Europe. The perfect transfer target could be Crystal Palace forward – Christian Benteke.

The club’s record signing has failed to impress for the Eagles, scoring just three Premier League goals. His value has plummeted to £19.8m according to Transfermarkt as a result of his poor form which has cast doubt over his future at the club. Celtic should take advantage and offer him an escape route.

Despite his struggles, Benteke remains a top forward. Extremely strong and powerful in the air, the Belgian international is a deadly finisher when in form and would be a real problem for defences in the SPL. He has worked with Rodgers in the past with the Northern Irishman forking out £32m to bring him to Liverpool.

A reunion in Scotland could be the perfect platform to relaunch his career.
