With the Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern nervous about Scotland’s trip to Slovenia tomorrow, they could certainly do with their nerves settled.
It’s make-or-break for the Tartan Army tomorrow after a dramatic win against Slovakia on Thursday night, so the Bhoys in the bar are among many Scottish punters calming their World Cup nerves with more than a few pints today.
Well, quotes sourced in the Glasgow Evening Times have actually helped that process along, too. Covering Gordon Strachan’s pre-match press conference yesterday, they’ve revealed quotes likely to please our resident Hoops, amongst others.
Indeed, ‘WGS’ has hinted that Celtic star Callum McGregor could feature in Ljubljana tomorrow night, after finally being called up to the squad. It’s been a long wait for the 24-year-old, who was first called up three years ago, though constantly missed out during the period in between, despite some great performances at club level.
However, Strachan has revealed both he and Hibs star John McGinn could play, much to the delight of the Scots in our bar.
“Of course they have”, he replied when quizzed on the pair.
”If we have another two out we can call on them. That shows you how strong that area (midfield) is. There are some bumps and bruises, but they kept playing.”
McGregor is beaming with confidence and can provide a palpable goal threat, against a nation who rarely concede a home goal. Breaking from deep, the 24-year-old could prove to be a hero in what is likely to be a tight game.
