Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been revelling in their team’s fantastic 2017/18 campaign so far, which could get a whole lot better were they to go on and win the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers’ men sealed a seventh successive Scottish Premiership title at the rear end of April courtesy of a 5-0 hammering of Rangers at Celtic Park, which added to the Scottish League Cup crown they won back in November after beating Motherwell 2-0 at Hampden Park. And the Bhoys will go in search of back-to-back domestic trebles when they again face Stephen Robinson’s side in the showpiece at the national stadium on Saturday, although they go into that clash off the back of defeat at home to Aberdeen last time out.
Nonetheless, there have been many thrilled Celtic fans in the Tavern throughout the entirety of the season, several of whom are already looking ahead to the summer and thus what business their side may seek to do.
And one man linked with both the Bhoys and indeed Championship side Leeds United is Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, who simply must forget about the Yorkshire heavyweights and instead make the move north of the border to Glasgow.
Ultimately, Leeds have struggled for two successive seasons to sustain a promotion push in the second tier, with the Whites falling out of the top six under Garry Monk last term to finish seventh, before falling even further this time round to eventually end up 13th.
Thus, one wonders whether they can indeed go again and challenge for a return to the Premier League next season, whereas it’s all set up for Hernandez to go to Celtic and be hugely successful.
The 27-year-old continues to be prolific in front of goal despite recent injury troubles, having bagged an impressive eight goals in just ten appearances for Hull this term, somewhat playing a part in helping to keep Nigel Adkins’ side in the Championship.
And with 20 goals in his last campaign at second tier level, alongside eight goals in 49 Premier League appearances during his career, it’s clear that the Uruguay international knows where the goal is and hasn’t been overly impacted by recent injuries – as such, he could make a difference at Celtic.
And with the future of Moussa Dembele always uncertain heading into the summer transfer window, and with Rodgers likely hoping for improvements in Europe this term, further attacking reinforcements simply wouldn’t go amiss. And on a free, Hernandez would surely be worth a punt.
And for the man himself, the chance to regularly turn out for a team fighting for the title, seeking to create history, and ultimately hoping to better themselves on the European stage appears to outweigh what is likely to be offered at Leeds.
Thus, £6.3 million-rated Hernandez (as per Transfermarkt) should seek to forget about the Yorkshire outfit, and instead opt for a move north of the border to Rodgers’ Celtic.
