The Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern could do with some cheering up right now, following their frustrating draw with Rosenborg in a Champions League qualifier.
With not making it into the group stages now a very realistic possibility, the Bhoys in the bar need a boost to lift spirits ahead of their return leg on Wednesday.
So, reports from the Scottish Sun have gone down a storm today. They’ve revealed that Leigh Griffiths is WINNING his race against time to make sure he’s fit to play in Norway and lead the Hoops’ cause.
Both he and Moussa Dembele missed the first leg through injury, leaving Brendan Rodgers without a central striker or a killer instinct. While the former Hibernian man was suspended anyway, he’s reportedly been struggling with a calf problem and wouldn’t have made the clash.
However, the Scotland international is said to be expected to board the plane over to Trondheim on Tuesday as things stand, much to the delight of those clad in green and white within our bar.
Though the 26-year-old largely operated as a second fiddle to Dembele last term, he’s a hugely popular figure in the Tavern and his likely return to the starting XI has been celebrated.
A goalscorer, Celtic’s chances of embarking on a European adventure are seriously strengthened him in the team.
Indeed, if he manages to turn the tie around, perhaps he’d put himself into contention for a regular starting berth next term, considering the rumours surrounding his French teammate this summer.
