Injury nightmare should prompt Rodgers into making Celtic swoop on one of Britain’s most exciting talents

Though Jonny Hayes hasn’t had the most productive of debut seasons for Celtic, the punters propping up our bar are absolutely gutted about the Irishman’s injury. Obviously, seeing a player suffer a dreadful leg break is never nice, though losing a squad member ahead of their assault on the Europa League only compounds the misery.

With that in mind, our drinkers clad in green and white are starting to think of potential replacements for the former Aberdeen star. Indeed, with a massive double-header against Zenit St. Petersburg little over a month away, it’s important that Brendan Rodgers brings a new attacker in to round out his squad.

So, having said that, perhaps a look back to one of his former clubs would be a good idea. For at Liverpool, there lies a potential loan signing who could seriously excite the Parkhead faithful.

Step forward, Ben Woodburn.

The young Welsh international has been linked with a loan move to the Championship, though surely a move up to Scotland to win a league title and battle in the business end of the Europa League would be far more appealing. One of Britain’s most exciting talents, the 18-year-old is able to play across the frontline, taking up wide positions along with the likes of Scott Sinclair, Patrick Roberts and James Forrest to cover the injury to Hayes.

There’s also the option of deploying him as a central striker, something that may have to be done should Moussa Dembele leave for the Premier League over the next few weeks, so the versatility is certainly there.

A hugely exciting talent, a short-term move to work under a good coach at a massive club still involved in massive games could prove to be a beneficial arrangement all around.
