Celtic supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team take a huge step towards retaining their Scottish Premiership crown after beating Rangers 3-2 on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went into the Old Firm derby at Ibrox just six points clear of the Gers, and knowing that victory for Graeme Murty’s side would certainly open up the title-race heading into the final few months of the campaign. And while the Light Blues twice led through Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias, it was the Bhoys who had the last laugh as goals from Tom Rogic, Moussa Dembele, and Odsonne Edouard sealed a vital three points for Rodgers’ side, thus moving them nine points clear at the summit, and still with a game in hand over their bitter rivals.
Thus, there have been many happy Celtic fans in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to be further interested by a recent report from The Scottish Sun, which suggests that further talks are in the offing with Rogic over a new deal at Parkhead.
The 25-year-old made the move to the Scottish giants back in 2013 and has since proven his worth with 27 goals and 22 assists in 122 appearances for the Bhoys, five goals and eight assists of which coming this term in their run to top spot in the Scottish Premiership.
Yet the Australia international sees his contract at Celtic Park expire in the summer of 2019, and The Scottish Sun believe that he has rejected a new deal to extend his stay north of the border.
However, it’s not all bad news though, as reports suggest that further talks are in the offing as Rodgers’ side seek an agreement with Rogic, but whether they result in the 25-year-old remaining at Celtic very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Reports suggest that Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic has rejected a new deal to remain at the Scottish champions, and with his current deal set to expire in 2019, his future appears very unclear heading into the summer.
However, reports recently suggest that further contract talks are in the offing as Brendan Rodgers’ side seek an agreement with the 25-year-old, who has been hugely influential for the club this term in bagging five goals and laying on eight assists in 31 appearances.
Whether those future talks come to anything remains to be seen, but it does appear as though Celtic will try their best to tie Rogic down to a new long-term deal.
