Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern will be celebrating their latest successes after securing their seventh straight Scottish Premiership title against Old Firm rivals Rangers at the weekend.
The Bhoys overcame their bitter rivals with a dominating 5-0 win on Sunday and are on course for their second domestic treble under Brendan Rodgers in two years, a feat which has seen the manager targeted for jobs within some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Arsenal have been linked with the Parkhead chief as a potential replacement for Arsene Wenger, who is set to leave the Emirates at the end of the season after 22 years at the club. Rodgers has appeared as a strong favourite for the job, with majority shareholder Dermot Desmond admitting that they would not stand in his way if he was approached.
The locals will have been growing concerned with the reports – however, the manager has reassured the punters in the bar that he will not be going anywhere and has told talkSPORT that he has the ‘best job in the world’.
He told the talkSPORT Breakfast show: ‘I woke up here on Monday morning as the manager of Celtic, and I’m in the best job in the world. Believe it or not, the sky is blue here in Glasgow, I absolutely love it here.
‘I’ve got huge respect for Arsenal as a club. When I started my coaching career Arsene was just coming into the club and I learned so much in that period as a young coach watching him, so it’s a club I’ve got huge respect for.
‘But I’m so happy here at Celtic. I’m in a job, it’s a huge club with big expectancy and big pressure. I would love to work in the Premier League again one day, but I’m hopefully going to be coaching for another 20-odd years.’
And these comments are sure to delight our resident Bhoys fans, with it looking increasingly likely that Rodgers will indeed remain at Celtic Park ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
Landlord’s Verdict: Celtic fans will be delighted with the comments that Rodgers has made about their club, and will be hoping that he remains at the Hoops for the foreseeable future.
A number of the locals will still be concerned that Arsenal could be too good to turn down, but will be looking ahead to the side trying to get a back-to-back domestic treble.
